Northeast • The Northeastern United States is a region of the United States defined by the U. S. Census Bureau. • Covers nine states including Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. • Maryland, Delaware, and District of Columbia are often included in this region as well. Northeastern Sub Divisions • Includes New England Mid-Atlantic • New England is the oldest clearly defined region of the United States. • Mid-Atlantic is the most densely populated region while only including New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

Midwest • The Midwest is a region of the north-central and northeastern United States. • The heart of the Midwest is bounded by the Great Lakes and the Ohio and Mississippi River Valleys. • The Midwest covers twelve states including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Midwest Sub Divisions • Has two sub divisions: East North Central and West North Central • East North Central states are strongly identified as the “Rust Belt” • West North Central states are strongly identified as the “Farm Belt”

South • The region of the United States embracing the southeastern and south-central of the country. • The South includes sixteen states which are Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. South Sub Divisions • South has three sub divisions: South Atlantic, East South Central, and West South Central. • The South Atlantic is considered the “New South” • The East South Central forms the core of “Old-Dixie” • West South Central is also part of “Old. Dixie”

West • Comprises the western most states of the United States bordering the Pacific ocean. • This region includes thirteen states which are Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. West Sub Divisions

West Sub Divisions • West includes two sub divisions: the Mountain and Pacific • The Mountain region gets it’s name from the Rockies that run right through the region. • The Pacific gets it’s name from it’s border to the Pacific Ocean
