Background information South Africa chosen to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup South African Government signed contracts and provided guarantees to ensure that the event would be successfully executed The government requested Telkom to ensure that the bandwidth that was required will be available for FIFA 2010 ICT requirements Contract signed between Do. The FIFA combined IT&T communications requirements The communications requirement at the IBC and earmarked Stadiums for the FIFA 2010 World Cup matches can be broken up into (2) two groups: Basic telecommunications infrastructure (WAN), and Venue distribution and access systems (LAN). Strict rules apply to how the services should be provided, e. g. 99% availability End-to-end service and performance management Dual homing Communications requirement at an Earmarked stadium and the IBC only differ in scale

Universal services provisioning infrastructure Remote Ethernet Switch Provisioning for the required video feeds are made by the dedicated NGSDH and WDM infrastructure Any other basic communications service requirement, from Analogue telephony to High speed wireless LAN connectivity, is provided for by Telkom’s IP based NGN network.
