STATE OF CONNECTICUT: SECURITY AND SAFETY PLAN STANDARDS Per Connecticut Statue 10 -222 n – No later than January 1, 2014, the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection in consultation with school security and safety plan standards shall be an all hazards approach to emergencies at public schools and shall include the following: Involvement of local officials Command Center Organization Established Safety Committee Crisis Management Procedures Safety Evaluations Submit reports to State Department of Emergency Services & Public Protection regarding fire drills and crisis response drills 7. School Security & Safety Committee Responsible for assisting and administering in the development of school security & safety Local police officer, local first responder, teacher, administrator Each year the board of education shall submit the security & safety plan to the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection 5

SCHOOL SECURITY & SAFETY EVALUATIONS State of CT Standards Requires that local law enforcement and other local public safety officials evaluate, score and provide feedback on fire drills and crisis response drills that are conducted Local law enforcement and fire officials evaluate our fire drills and other crisis response drills conducted throughout the year. PROCEDURES FOR MANAGING VARIOUS TYPES OF EMERGENCIES Region 15 has 12 pages of “Emergency Responses” ranging from fire drills to gas leaks and a variety of other types of potential hazards. 9
VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT Region 15 State of CT Standards Each local BOE conducts a security and vulnerability assessment for each school every 2 years and develop a school security and safety plan for each school based on the results of the assessment Region 15 has a 21 page check list that covers a wide range of physical, medical, natural and human made emergency responses. SAFE SCHOOL CLIMATE COMMITTEE State of CT Standards Region 15 Collect and evaluate information relating to instances of disturbing or threatening behavior that may not meet the definition of bullying, and report such information, as necessary to the district safe school climate committee coordinator and the school security and safety committee for the school 11
SCHOOL SAFETY & SECURITY PLAN TRAINING FOR EMPLOYEES State of CT Standards A requirement that the school security and safety plan for each school provide an orientation on such school security and safety plan to each school employee and provide violence prevention training in a manner prescribed in such school safety and security plan School Crisis Team Training in Responsive Classroom & RULER Strategies for De-escalation All Schools review “shelter in place” and “evacuation” procedures Presented to the R 15 Board of Education 6/10/19 Region 15 12
