Migration as justification for shrinking space for civil society In the last years, human rights organizations, pro-democracy actors and wider civil society movements in many countries are facing increased restrictions when trying to carry out their work. Spaces for CSOs reduced as they are captured and co-opted by other actors Intimidation and violent attacks upon civil society actors HRDs and refugee solidarity groups criminalized, stigmatized, and delegitimized Rights to freedom of assembly and association constrained Broad laws regulating CSO operations, including registration, licensing, reporting, and accountability

The FRA report maps out what EU must do to protect civil society The EU must responded to the shrinking space through a range of more specific policy mechanisms and instruments. Supporting CSO is now more important than ever. Resources have to increase, not decrease.

The design of a new European Migration Policy 1. design migration policy to contributes to a more humane and just world; 2. design internal migration policy in such a way that immigration is perceived as an enrichment rather than a threat; 3. decisions on migration policy must be compatible with the collective right to self-determination of the citizens of that country 4. migration policy should be designed in such a way that it does not worsen social inequality in the host country; 5. combating world suffering and alleviating the inequality between the global north and the global south, between the economically developed and the less economically developed regions (migration is largely ineffective in comparison to other measures ).
