Steps to Implementation 1. Students are purposefully grouped in pairs. Person A asks Person B one Before-Reading question. They reverse roles and then begin reading the non-fiction text. They will stop at a teacher or student designated spot. 2. After reading that section, Person A asks Person B one During-Reading question. They reverse roles. This can continue until text is read. 3. Teachers, students should paraphrase how their partner answered the question to ensure accurate, active listening. Continue the conversation if possible (another question, another clarification, jot a note, etc. ).
