Reflection Question for AICE Media Studies By Maeve
Reflection Question for AICE Media Studies By: Maeve Murphy Period: 5
Question 1: My music video is defined as rock due to the song choice of Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra. The typical conventions of rock are very fun and colorful displays that may seem unusual. Generally, my project fits well into the genre since it is flashy with multiple colors and has a very fun subject of a girl dancing to the beat of the song. As a result, the video does not truly challenge conventions, instead it fits into them. However, my video represents social group or issues through having the girl in the video meet and become friends with a older boy. In my video, gender or age does not matter or determine who you are allowed to become friends with. The message of showing the two becoming friends is that anyone can become friends no matter social groups like gender or race.
Question 2: My project engages the audiences’ attention since it is unique and sets itself apart from most other music videos where its just a montage of friends together. Instead, my project offers humor to its viewers and makes them feel good since it is very upbeat. Most music videos have stories behind it, while mine is simply a girl dancing to the music. A lot of viewers smiled and laughed, so I know they got the happy vibe of it. To distribute it as a real media text, I would post it on my blog as well as post it on You. Tube since You. Tube is the most significant video outlet for most young people, who I think would appeal most to this project.
Question 3: My production skills improved immensely from this project. Initially, when I started the project, I had never used a video camera that was not on my phone and I have never even touched a tri-pod. I am now able to edit video and use i. Movie properly. During production, I enjoyed editing and getting to see the final product, as well as giving directions for the actress and such. However, I did not enjoy the stress of it. I was not sure when I would be getting the camera or when my actress would be able to film; that was the most stressful part. I did not enjoy having to have a open schedule constantly.
I’ve always wanted to be a director, but this was only a small music video for high school and I could not imagine what it would be like to film a big movie. As a result, I don’t think I’ll go into the career of being a director. From using the camera on my phone to film and make montages for my friends’ birthdays, to being able to set up a tripod and film from an actual film camera and get to edit it with a movie app, I’ve progressed a long way as a filmmaker.
Question 4 • I used a professional camera and a tripod to make my film as well as a website (www. wordpress) to make my blog to document my progression with the film. I also used the i. Movie app to edit all my film. • My teacher taught us how to use the cameras and how to find your way around the i. Movie app, so when the time came to make my project, everything was relatively simple. I used my knowledge of applying music and filters that she taught us to the film and got to use the camera panning device when we filmed.
