Confidence Projecting an attitude that absolutely any situation that arises will be handled effectively, efficiently, and correctly n The constant gathering of officials, especially in obvious situations, gives the perception that a referee is unsure or uses others as a crutch n A common mistake is when the referee leaves the discussion and returns for more information n Minimize the amount of time two or more officials are on the screen Conversely, over-confidence can lead to errors and an appearance that you are unapproachable

Conclusion A referee must present an image of poise, confidence, and strength to gain a sense of credibility from the audience but it must be combined with the ability to get involved in any situation in order to manage the game effectively and truly earn the respect of coaches and players.
