Objective • Students will create a poster or powerpoint project that demonstrates and explains three FDR New Deal policies • Students will discuss three programs which are categorized in each of the following – Recovery – Reform – Relief

Instructions • Use poster board or print a powerpoint presentation 1. List, Name, and describe three New Deal programs 2. Summarize the main points of each program and its affect on the Country during the depression (paragraph or bullet points) 3. Provide a picture related to each category 4. Label each one’s objective as Recovery, Reform, or Relief and explain your answer.

Purposes of the New Deal • Relief: to provide jobs for the unemployed and to protect farmers from foreclosure • Recovery: to get the economy back into high gear • Reform: To regulate banks, to abolish child labor, and to conserve farm lands • Overall objective: to save capitalism and our economic system

Criteria

Social Security Act • • • The Social Security Act was signed by FDR on August 14, 1935. The Act responded to the negatives of old age, poverty, unemployment, and dependent widows and fatherless children, benefits to retirees and the unemployed, as well as a lump-sum at death Gave money to states for aid to dependent children, established unemployment insurance through payroll deduction, set up old-age pensions for retirees. Effect: It has helped million of the elderly, children and has become an inseparable part of our way of life. No candidate can be elected advocating the repeal of the Social Security Act Purpose: reform It is a reform effort because it shifted money to the elderly and children. Also, people had to now contribute through their payroll taxes. It reformed the tax code and how we deal with the untouchables in our society. We do not forget them. I guess you could say it is relief for the those who fit into its category.
