Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence Who is the Holy Spirit ? 1. The Holy

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence Who is the Holy Spirit ? 1. The Holy Spirit has been involved right from the beginning – creation & time. 2. Gen 1: 1 -3 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, 3. The 1. 2. 3. and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved (hovered) upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. Holy Spirit is the 3 rd Person of the Trinity: God the Father God the Son God the Holy Spirit ( also referred to as the Finger of God in some places ) (Exo 9: 19, Exo 31: 18, Deut 9: 10, Luk 11: 20) 4. And these 3 are seen/recognized as ONE 5. Deut 6: 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is ONE LORD: …. . 6. 7. 8. 9. The ONENESS of God – means – they are different in Person, but they Agree as one. Each One will make the same Decisions and will say the same things in their own unique way – but always being: True, Holy, Righteous and Pure in every way. Meaning you can recognise the Father, apart from The Son (Jesus) apart from the Holy Spirit, although they are all 3 Spirit… 1 John 5: 7 -8 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. Mat 12: 31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. (compare 1 John 5: 16) 10. The Holy Spirit was involved throughout the Old Testament. In every book you will find His Work and His presence somehow working in the back ground… 11. The FUNCTION of the Holy Spirit was Demonstrated mostly during the following situations… 1. 2. 3. He has been working in/through various people (but only a selected few at any particular time – mostly prophets) for a period of 4000 years prior to the coming of Jesus Christ He was strongly recognized & involved during the 3½ years of ministering time of Jesus Then after the outpouring of the Holy Spirit since the day of Pentecost – He has been mightily involved in the Church for the last 2000 years 2

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence Nature & Role of the Holy Spirit 1. 2.

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence Nature & Role of the Holy Spirit 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. During the 4000 years of the Old Testament times, the Spirit of God would come and rest upon a particular person for a season, and then departed again… This presence of the Spirit of God upon a person was referred to as the Anointing ( But in Greek it is called: Christos – or Christ ) – and this “Anointing” caused the person on which it rested upon, to Prophecy and Declare God’s Laws and Oracles, etc. (eg Balaam in Num 22 -23) King David asks in Ps 51: 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. David understood the importance of the Holy Spirit’s presence in his life, as he also saw what happened to King Saul when the Holy Spirit had left him… ( 1 Sam 16: 14) And so we can go through all the Old Testament books, and will find the Presence of the Holy Spirit in one place or the another Then in the NEW Testament the First we read of the Holy Spirit is with the announcements of Zacharias & Elizabeth as well as Mary: where each will have a son through the Holy Spirit’s working – but differently in their lives, as well as all the dreams Joseph and the Wise men had preventing King Herod from killing Jesus as a baby…etc… But then we only read of the Holy Spirit again, being Poured Out onto Jesus at His Baptism: Mat 3: 16 And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: Mat 3: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 9. 10. John the Baptist also recognized Jesus as the Son of God, the Messiah – BUT: only through the Spirit (although they were actually nephews) – exactly as God Promised him, and thus he identified Jesus as the Messiah to everyone that was standing there at the time… 11. Joh 1: 29 -34 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. And I knew Him not: but that He should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon Him. And I knew Him not: but He that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, the same is He which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. 12. Then from here on – Jesus was first led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tested/tempted and then when He came back, Jesus started ministering in the Power of the Holy Spirit for 3½ years – Healing the sick, Driving out devils & Preaching and Teaching the Kingdom 3

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence Nature & Role of the Holy Spirit 1. 2.

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence Nature & Role of the Holy Spirit 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Then the Holy Spirit’s Purpose was formally introduced by Jesus to the Disciples of His TRUE Nature and Role from henceforth and when He is coming: which would be soon after Jesus was Captured & Crucified, Resurrected and Ascended into Heaven… 10 days to be exact after His Ascension And we read most of these conversations in John 14 to 16, and Mark 16 and Acts 1 Let’s look at some of these verses: Joh 14: 10 -11 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of Myself: but the Father that dwelleth in Me, He doeth the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me: or else believe Me for the very works' sake. Joh 14: 15 -16 If ye love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you Another Comforter (G: Allos Parakletos) , that He may abide with you for ever; Greek: Allos Parakletos – means – Someone Exactly the Same as Jesus, called beside you to assist you (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor) AND: If you look at these verses – you will see that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit were all 3 manifesting through Jesus at the same time. . As Jesus said in verse 9: Joh 14: 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known Me, Philip? he that hath seen Me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10. Joh 14: 17 -18 Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 11. Joh 15: 26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, He shall testify of me: 12. Joh 16: 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you. 13. NOTE: The World can’t see or Receive Him, as they hate everything about God & Jesus…etc… 14. THUS: only true believers will receive Him and Recognize Him…( Joh 15: 18 -25) 4

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence Nature & Role of the Holy Spirit 1. 2.

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence Nature & Role of the Holy Spirit 1. 2. Jesus also said that the Holy Spirit will Convict people of 3 things: 3. 4. 5. 6. Joh 16: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; (Compare Joh 3: 17 -21) 7. Joh 16: 12 -13 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 8. Joh 16: 14 -15 He shall glorify Me: for He shall receive of Mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are Mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of Mine, and shall shew it unto you. 9. Jesus also promised, that He and the Father will make their HOME with us, if we believe in Him and love them, and obey their commandments… Joh 16: 8 And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Joh 16: 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Joh 16: 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. Another Characteristic of the Holy Spirit is that He would guide us in ALL TRUTH, through bringing Glory to Jesus and also through testifying to us that what Jesus has said and done is the TRUTH so that we don’t have to doubt anything…!!! 10. Joh 14: 23 -24 ESV Jesus answered him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me. 11. Joh 14: 25 -27 ESV "These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. 12. The Holy Spirit is also the one that brings the PEACE (SHALOM) back in our lives 5

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence How to Recognize the Holy Spirit’s Presence 1. SO:

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence How to Recognize the Holy Spirit’s Presence 1. SO: the question for ourselves today is – How do I recognize that it is the Holy Spirit talking to me, or guiding me…and not something/someone else… ? ? 2. Well, the First thing to check for – is there PEACE… ? ? 3. He is a Still Small Voice when He does speak (Elijah knew His voice 1 kings 19: 12 ) – 4. Also God in all His Forms, will always come in Gentleness and Love 5. Paul describes the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives as: 6. 1 Cor 6: 17 But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him. 7. And Paul is using the above verse as a reason in the rest of the chapter stating why we should live holy lives as we become the Temple of the Holy Spirit’s Presence when we are born again… 8. Meaning that the Holy Spirit comes and Joins Himself to my spirit – as spirit can join to spirit without a problem and become one – and you can’t tell the difference thereafter ( Like tea or coffee – the moment it is mixed with the water – you can’t separate them again ) 9. Now Jesus already tried to explain this to Nicodemus in John 3 – explaining what it means to be born of the Spirit…. 10. Some other translations states (like the MSG) – we are Born from ABOVE 11. Joh 3: 1 -2 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 12. Joh 3: 3 -4 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 13. Joh 3: 5 -7 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 14. Joh 3: 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. 15. Because The Holy Spirit is dwelling with me in my body – it means that I thus don’t really live my life anymore. . . Christ (Anointing) now Lives IN & Through me… 16. Gal 2: 20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me 6

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence How to Recognize the Holy Spirit’s Presence 1. 2.

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence How to Recognize the Holy Spirit’s Presence 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. For our lives were full of sin and unrighteousness before, and if it wasn’t for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in my life today – I would be like Israel in the desert – I will see everything happening in front of me, but I will not be able to truly believe and change my heart and mind and to walk in the ways of God. . THUS: Because we have become the Temple of the Holy Spirit’s Presence – and if I want Him to Fully Dwell in my life, I have to become more and more like Jesus – and get rid of all kinds of sins & Un-Righteousness in my life… And I do that – by recognising that Jesus has paid the price - for my life, and by confessing that His Blood cleanses me of all sin and Un-Righteousness (1 Joh 1: 7 -9) NOTE: SELF Righteousness – needs to be confessed and repented of very quickly…otherwise we come in opposition of the Holy Spirit’s Gentleness and we actually grieve Him, for He loves us so much and wants to help us and guide us and lead us in our every day life… (Eph 4: 30) In Rom 8 – Paul explains the Holy Spirit as an Intercessor – and speaking on our behalf, even bringing Healing & Restoration…Making us Sons of God (Rom 8: 29) Rom 8: 8 -11 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. Rom 8: 12 -15 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!" MEANING: The Holy Spirit KNOWS our every problem, and He has the answers to all of them. And we need to spend quiet time with Him in prayer, to get these answers from Him…!! Heb 4: 15 -16 (MSG) We don't have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through weakness and testing, experienced it all--all but the sin. So let's walk right up to Him and get what He is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help. 10. Rom 8: 26 -27 ASV Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And He who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 7

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence The Omnipotence & Omnipresence of the Holy Spirit 1.

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence The Omnipotence & Omnipresence of the Holy Spirit 1. Omnipotent = All Powerful, Almighty, Supreme 2. Out of all the “chaos” on the earth – He brought about the whole of creation – and He has been maintaining and supporting it every day ever since. ( Heb 1: 3) 3. Heb 1: 10 -12 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. 4. Heb 13: 8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. 5. Omnipresence = He is ALL Present everywhere – all at the same time 6. Psa 139: 7 -10 Whither shall I go from Thy Spirit? or whither shall I flee from Thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. 7. We can’t Escape or Flee or Hide from the Presence of the Holy Spirit. 8. There is no place where the Holy Spirit will not work or function in you or through you or even around you 1. But we can cause Him to be Powerless – through our fleshly unbelief system, full of doubt and Fear 2. Mat 15: 6 b (Ampl) So for the sake of your tradition (the rules handed down by your forefathers), you have set aside the Word of God [depriving it of force and authority and making it of no effect] – in other words – Powerless 3. Jam 1: 6 -8 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. 8

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence Poured out UPON ALL FLESH 1. Joel 2: 28

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence Poured out UPON ALL FLESH 1. Joel 2: 28 -30 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and 2. This Prophecy has been fulfilled for the First Time on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. But it is still being Fulfilled today – meaning He still pours out His Spirit on people everywhere today…in various ways – of which Revival is just one way …impacting a generation… But God does it also during Worship, or Prayer, or just someone being so hungry for Him – like saint Patrick Remember – as the bible states very clearly Heb 13: 8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Meaning – Like Jesus, God the Father & God the Holy Spirit are the same also – as they are ONE… And through The Holy Spirit being POURED OUT upon us, we experience an INFILLING of God’s Presence (the Trinity), and then His Gifts will automatically start to FLOW through us and His FRUITS (Characteristics) will start to manifest in our daily lives as well… NOTE: This is for everyone – not just a selected few anymore. Anyone who chooses to believe can receive Him – and thus also His GIFTS & His Character…etc. . Actually His Fullness !! Joh 16: 13 -15 When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take what is Mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is Mine; therefore I said that He will take what is Mine and declare it to you. 9. NOTE: The Power of the Holy Spirit Anointing (Christos or Christ) is – Impartation in Action 10. Act 19: 11 -12 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. 11. By Desiring and Stirring up your Faith in the Impartation you’ve received, the Gifts will follow… 1. 2 Tim 1: 6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 2. 1 Cor 12: 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way…. (Godly Love) 3. 1 Cor 14: 1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. 4. 1 Cor 14: 12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. 9

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence IN SUMMARY 1. Believe in God as the Father,

Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Presence IN SUMMARY 1. Believe in God as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit – do not push any one of them aside – and you will see the signs, and the miracles and the wonders Jesus has promised and that you would even be able to greater works than Jesus did ( John 14: 12) 2. The Holy Spirit can mostly be recognized in Dreams and Visions through the symbols of: 3. 1. Water, Fire, Wind or a Dove… You can Receive the Holy Spirit through any of the following ways: v 1. BELIEVING in Jesus and asking for Jesus to come and dwell in your life - and He will do it through the Presence of the Holy Spirit 1. Meaning: you thus Receive the Promise of the Holy Spirit, by Receiving Jesus Act 2: 38 -39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 2. By the Laying on of Hands – Impartation 3. 1 Tim 4: 14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. 4. John 20: 21 -23 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: Whosoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosoever sins ye retain, they are retained. 5. Through an Outpouring – Revival etc… 6. Joel 2: 28 -30 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh • THUS Allow the Holy Spirit to move and do His work according to the WILL of the Father and the Desire of Jesus, and He will use you in ways you never even thought Possible… 1. Also if (according to your standards and knowledge), something “strange” happens to you or someone else during a service, don’t always just make it off that it is from the devil… 2. Examine the situation and verify with the scriptures and the Holy Spirit testifying within you – if it isn’t perhaps the Holy Spirit wanting to move and/or do something in your or someone else’s life to bring freedom, or Healing, or whatever else He has planned… 3. Don’t ever put God in a box – He will surprise you…!!! ***** A M E N ***** 10
