Speaking and listening are the key skills children need to develop their ability to read and write. What you can do? Talk to them! Model and expect good listening. Encourage the understanding and use of new vocabulary. Sing songs, rhymes and read poems, enjoying the rhyme and rhythm of words. Read to your child regularly and develop their story language (library books given each Friday)

Reading at School In addition to a weekly library book, a levelled reading book will be given. Teacher and TA read 1: 1 with each child in a group. All children will have read 1: 1 with both adults by the end of the week. PLEASE ensure your child’s book is brought in EVERYDAY.
