Receiving Power on High
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. Acts 1: 1 -8, 12 NIV
3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 1: 1 -8, 12 NIV
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem Godfearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Acts 1: 1 -8, 12 NIV
7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? Acts 1: 1 -8, 12 NIV
12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean? ” Acts 1: 1 -8, 12 NIV
Be Filled with the Holy Spirit
17 “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. Acts 2: 17 -18 NIV
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call. ” Acts 2: 38 -39 NIV
11 “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Matthew 3: 11 NIV
Live Boldly
19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard. ” Acts 4: 19 -20 NIV
29 And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. 30 Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus. ” Acts 4: 29 -30 NLT
31 After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness. Acts 4: 31 NLT
Devote Yourself to Teaching & Fellowship
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2: 42 NIV
46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2: 46 -47 NIV
Conclusion: We remember the day of Pentecost, not as a single event that remains in our past. It was a starting point that launched God’s ultimate purpose of bringing forth and expanding The Church, powered through His Holy Spirit that dwells in us. That same Spirit from Pentecost flows in us today. Let us believe and walk in the Spirit daily. Let us live devoted to God and His Church.
