What am I learning today? The effects of unemployment on local communities

Activity Make a mind map showing the negative impact unemployment can have on an area. Skilled people may move away to find a new job. Shops will close. Amenities will decline. Housing areas deteriorate. Vandalism, drug abuse and crime may increase. Employers are reluctant to set up business in run down areas.

The domino effect The closure of one large business or factory in an area can lead to a domino effect- that is, other businesses may suffer as a direct result.
