What is Reasonable Assurance? Reasonable Assurance is an agreement made by the employer that the employee will perform the same or similar services in the next term. This agreement can be written, verbal or implied, and does not have to be with the same school or educational service agency.
Why Reasonable Assurance? School employees and educators who have written or verbal agreement to return to work will need to complete documentation to determine their eligibility.

How is Reasonable Assurance Determined? • The past employer/employee relationship • An established understanding that the employee will return to work • If the employee has placed their name on a list of available workers • Whether the employee has reason to believe they will not be called back
Retroactive Payments Some of the eligibility requirements • Filing weekly claims throughout the break period • Claimant must be available to work • Claimant must be physically able to work • Claimant must be looking for work as directed • Notify the Department of Labor within two weeks of the break ending
When To Apply It is important to apply for unemployment benefits as soon as possible; a claim is effective the same week that the application is filed. An application cannot be completed until the job has ended or the hours available to work have been reduced.
