Reading Lesson Let’s talk about reading!

Parts of a Story Characters Setting ◦ Characters- the people or animals that play an important part in the story. ◦ Setting-where the story takes place ◦ Main Character- who the story is mostly about ◦ Sometimes the setting can change in a story, but think of where it mostly happens.

Retelling a Story ◦ When you retell a story, you should be able to tell about the beginning, middle and ending. ◦ Beginning-the first part of a story, describe the events that are taking place ◦ You should start at the beginning and tell what ◦ Middle-the part of the story that tells most of the plot. The middle may be where the problem is talked about or when something good happens. ◦ Happened, then talk about the middle. ◦ At the end of the story, you can describe what happened to the characters of how a problem was solved. ◦ Ending-the part in the story that tells how the problem is solved or how things are made better.

Problem/Solution Problem Solution ◦ The problem in a story talks about how something goes wrong. ◦ The solution is the way in which the problem is solved. ◦ The problem often happens to the main character. ◦ The solution often happens at the end of the story. ◦ The problem is something that the main character has to figure out in order of things to get better. ◦ The solution usually makes the main character feel better or happier.
