Views Ø Readability refers to using the correct views in a way that is easy to read and transmits all of the required information to build the part. Ø Figure shows a cross sectional view with an additional side view to see “inside” the part. Ø Additional views, such as detailed views, auxiliary views, and projection views are important in detailing a part. Ø Remember to only use extra views if necessary to define the part; too many views lead to clutter and confusing drawings. Dimensioning & Tolerances 4

Isometric Views and Exploded Views Isometric views are also used on a drawing page and the exploded view to provide a 3 D model of the part. The exploded view of your pipsqueak engine is due next week, which should include an isometric view as shown in the example. It is also important to note on this page is that there is a list of parts with their quantity and a balloon showing where they are on the page. The parts list on the exploded view does not replace the bill of materials needed for the project, but it is still required for the project. Dimensioning & Tolerances 4

Bill of Materials (BOM) Ø A BOM details a parts list that lets the machinist know what is needed to make your part. Ø These stock components will then be used with your drawings and your process sheets to create the individual parts. Ø Stock components for the Pipsqueak will be given to you so be sure to specify stock parts on your BOM. Dimensioning & Tolerances 4
