VIETNAMESE DIASPORA Most Vietnamese people, who fled the country because they were discriminated, mistreated under communist regime. They were former military, or government officers of the Republic of Vietnam. This group of people carried with them the scars of mistreatment from their homeland, how can they forget what they had gone through?

An example of a people in this group such as a high school teacher drafted into RVN Army, and served in a non-combat unit. When the war ended, like any other former officers of the RVN, he ended up in several re-education camps.

RE-EDUCATION CAMP

After his release, he came home to find out his house had a new owner, an officer of the “New Regime”. His children were sent back to live with their grand parents (The RVN officer’s parents). His ex wife denied him, and together with her new husband did not allow him to enter the house. He had no choice but to live on the street.

“I can not forget eating a bowl of rice on a street in a rainy day. The water dripped through the old hat into the bowl like a bowl of soup… Sometimes I met an old friend, ex-girlfriend… and even my old student. They were my patrons… I was just a homeless pedicaber ”.
