The Peak Years! • In 1508, Julius II sent for Raphael • Julius commissioned Raphael to decorate papal rooms with theological themes • Raphael had to recruit pupils and assistants because it was such an ambitious commission • This started in 1509, and in the process he broke away from his passion of detail
The Peak Years Continue! • Less detail helped him to expand his style of composition by presenting itself as a homogeneous whole • He starts to show his new style of composition in the paintings Disputation Concerning The Holy Sacrament and The School of Athens
