What is Rape Culture? Rape culture includes -Blaming victims -Normalizing sexual violence --Harassing victims
People vs. Brock Turner -Started January of 2015 -Brock Turner -A Stanford college student that raped an unconscious and incapacitated woman behind a dumpster. - Incapacitation- being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
People vs. Brock Turner -Turner was charged with sexual assault but was released on bail the same day he was charged. -Eventually was brought back into court, charged with 6 months, then gets out on 3 months.
The Problem with People vs. Brock Turner What’s the Problem? Turner received a 6 month sentence for raping an incapacitated and unconscious woman He ended up getting out of his sentence at only 3 months. Why? Unjust court Favoring the abuser over the victim Denial How to fix this? Educate about incapacitation Classes about consent Remove a bias judge from a court case
