Water Shortage
What is Water Shortage? Water shortage is the lack of sufficient available water resources needed to meet water needs within a specific region
Water Shortage Facts 1 in 10 people lack access to safe water 1 in 3 people lack access to a toilet Water has grown at more than twice the rate of population increase in the last century By 2025 it is estimated that 1. 8 billion people will live in areas plagued by water scarcity with 2/3’s of the world’s population living in water-stressed regions as a result of use, growth, and climate change
Continued Facts Only about 1% of the Earth’s water is available to drink The average American uses about 140 -170 gallons of water per day Showering and bathing are the largest indoor usage of water domestically (27%) It takes about 3. 3 acre-feet of water to grow enough food for an average family for a year

Water Shortage Solutions
Rain Barrels
What is a rain Barrel? Is a collection system that collects and stores rain water from your rooftop. Consists of a 55 gallon drum, a vinyl hose, PVC couplings, and a screen grate to keep leaves, insects, and other debris out of the water
Benefits of a rain barrel It provides an ample supply of free “soft water” to homeowners It contains no chlorine, lime or calcium Perfect for gardens, flower pots, and car washing It will save most homeowners about 1, 300 gallons of water during the peak summer months It diverts water from storm drains, decreasing the impact of runoff going into local streams and the Chesapeake Bay
Why Should We Care? The water shortage issue we face today effects the entire world If we don’t do anything soon, we will not have enough water resources to survive on Earth As our population and pollutants increase, the water shortage issue will only get worse
Thoughts After Project Honestly we did not realize how big of an issue water shortage really is here on Earth We need to take action now to help conserve water or else we wont have enough clean water in the future This made us realize that this wont just affect us now but it will affect us in the long run as well.
