Writing • Rahim Khan encourages Amir to write when he was younger • He brought out the best in Amir • His encoragement sustains Amir’s literacy aspirations in the face of his fathers disapproval. Quotations: . “I shall hear any story you have to tell”

Spiritual Father • Rahim Khan is seen as Amir’s spiritual father • He guides Amir throughout his life • He stood up for Amir when Baba was displeaced about him writing Quotations: • “I sat on my bed and wished Rahim Khan had been my father” –Amir, Chapter 4

Important Quotations • Rahim Khan stands up for Amir while Baba talks about his relationship with his son. Showing he is more like a father figure than Baba is. “Children aren’t coloring books! This shows that Rahim respects Amir’s decisions and only wants him to do what he enjoys in life, further showing us his spiritual father side towards Amir. • Towards the end of the book Rahim Khan says to Amir “ there is a way to be good again” this shows us that Rahim wants only what’s best for Amir. By saying this he makes Amir realise what he has to do and Rahim Khan knew all along that was the only thing that would bring peace to Amir’s broken heart.
