Welcome When I was growing up, it was hugely important to me that I was surrounded by inspirational female role models in my family. They showed me that anything is possible, that as a female there are no limits to your abilities and that if you work hard, you can have a career that you love. I now have a daughter and I hope that I can instil in her, and in other females, the same kind of hope and aspiration for the future that I was lucky enough to be influenced by. Personal Action Statement As Chief of Staff Personnel for the Royal Air Force, I am responsible under our Strategy to Build a Workforce Fit for the Future, and for meeting our Astra ambition of a World Class, Integrated, Capable and Inclusive Next Generation Air Force. That means designing a Whole Force structure that is truly representative of the society we serve, of which half are women, and attracting, recruiting and selecting diversity and talent into the RAF. Once serving, the culture must allow women to thrive, and be able to bring their true selves to work. Policies and processes should be fair and inclusive, allowing choice and flexibility where possible whilst also meeting the needs of the Service, and decision-making should always be open and transparent. Personal Pledge I pledge that I will challenge behaviours that are not fully inclusive to women across the whole of the Royal Air Force. Air Vice-Marshal Maria Byford QHDS MA BDS MFGDP(UK) FRAe.
