About the Committee o Newly established committee o Merged from Conference Committee and a part of Technical Activity Committee o Mission o Maintain close communication with Member and Geographic Activities Board (MGAB) and Technical Activities Board (TAB), for issues related to Conferences o Oversee the organization of the Region 10 Annual Conference series, TENCON o Review the requests for technically supporting a conference organized by OUs or any other organization requesting for technical co-sponsorship within the Asia-Pacific region upon which an MOU would be required o Support technical seminars and/or Distinguished Lecture Programs (DLP) to expand the reach of IEEE in the region

Objectives of TENCON o To provide a prestigious international forum for specialist presentations and interactions in one or more areas of electro and information technology; o To contribute to the development, progress and welfare of countries in the Asia-Pacific region by disseminating technological knowledge and experience; o To encourage the study and discussion of technology and technological applications in a broad social, political and human context; o To enable Sections within Region 10 to develop as mature IEEE entities by accepting the responsibilities of major conference organization.

Past Activities – 2009/10 Highlights o TENCON’ 09 – Singapore Section (Singapore, 23 -26 Nov. , 2009) o Total 950 papers received and 585 papers selected (acceptance ratio=62%) and finally 473 papers presented (no shows=19%) o TENCON’ 10 – Fukuoka Section (Fukuoka, 21 -24 Nov. , 2010) o Total 707 papers were submitted and 302 papers were selected for oral presentations and 187 for poster presentations (acceptance ratio 69%!) o 10 Tracks: (1) Power and Energy, (2) Devices, Materials and Processing, (3) Signal Processing and Applications, (4) Networks and Communications, (5) Computational Intelligence, Robotics and Computer System Applications, (6) Computing Architectures and Systems, (7) Algorithm, Software and Database Systems, (8) Circuits and Systems, (9) Biomedical Engineering and Others, and (10) Antennas and Propagation. o TENCON’ 11 – Indonesia Section (Bali, 21 -24 Nov. , 2011) o TENCON’ 12 – Philippines Section (Manila, 21 -24 Nov. , 2012) o TENCON’ 13 – Xian Section (time to be determined)

Proposed Activities and Goals - 2011 o Establishment of clear guidelines for organizing conferences in R 10 o Acceptance ratio, review process/criteria, sessions/tracts, …… o Establishment of clear guidelines of co-sponsorship criteria o Joint co-sponsorship with technical societies, TPC membership, …… o Finding methods to overcome conference delegate presenter absenteeism and any other plagiarism cases o Publishing no-show list, plagiarism check, punishment, …… o Finding methods to improve R 10 conference paper quality o Interdisciplinary topics, region-oriented topics, industry forums, ……
