Quick Write Procedure: � Write rapidly without stopping for 5 -10 min! � A means to quickly represent your thoughts. � A quick write could be: reflecting on a lesson, constructed response to a reading, or your understanding of a new concept
Act 1 Quick Write (Choose ONE) 1. 2. Love in all the wrong places: Have you ever become interested in something that you know is not good for you, but you want to do it anyhow? Romeo falls in love with Juliet, but knows his parents will not approve. Young people smoke cigarettes, yet they know the dangers of smoking. Lots of people love sweets, yet they know sweets are dangerous to their health. Write about something you are interested in that you know is not good for you. Party Crashers: You have heard of “wedding crashers. ” But have you or someone you know ever been a “party crasher” – going to a party or other event without being invited? Or perhaps you had someone “crash” your event. Write about a real or imaginary “party crashing” situation. 3. Hasty Decisions: Have you ever done something (like agreeing to baby sit or agreeing to make favors for a party) and then regretted your rapid decision? Write about a real or imaginary hasty decision. 4. Your Choice: Write about a topic of interest to you at this moment. It could be something personal or about family or school or news or life. Maybe you just need to write about something to work out a situation in your mind – go for it!
Act 2 Quick Write � Pretend you are “Dear Abby” and respond to this letter with advice: Dear Abby, Yesterday I thought I was in love with (pick a name). But then last night, I met (pick another name). NOW, I am absolutely, positively certain that I am in love with him/her. Do you think it is too soon to ask him/her to see me exclusively? Act 3 Quick Write (Choose ONE) � Individual Option: › Your family has chosen someone that they think you should date – without even talking to you. You are furious! Plan out your argument by completing each statement: �I am opposed to dating… �My first argument/reason is… �I feel this way because… �My second argument/reason is… �I feel this way because… � Partner Option: › Learning how to resolve conflicts is an important part of growing up. Describe what happened, including any consequences. 2. Understanding the risk Juliet is taking with the potion (will she wake up? will she die? ), would you take such a chance in her position? Explain. What does it tell you about her personality that she DOES drink the potion?
Act 5 Quick Write � Put yourself in Romeo’s shoes. Predict how you think Romeo will react when he hears that his beloved Juliet is dead. Write a 5 -6 sentence response following this format: › Step 1: You have really gotten to know Romeo. Make a list of some of his prior actions. › Step 2: With this list & your knowledge of Romeo, consider these questions to come up with a prediction: �What will he say? �What will he do or how will he react? �Where will he go to see if this is true? �Whom will he want to talk with?
