Introduction to the Primary Survey In this lesson, we are going to learn about the Primary Survey. The Primary Survey is a quick way to find out how to treat any life-threating conditions a casualty may have in order of importance. Let’s take a look at a character who can help us to remember the Primary Survey.

DR ABC D R A B C Can you remember what each letter of DR ABC stands for? Remember: These steps are in order of importance. For example, problems with the airway should be dealt with first, followed by problems with breathing, and so on. But if there is danger present which could injure you or the casualty, it should be dealt with first so that you don’t become a casualty too!
Activity 1: Order It! Read the statements on the cards. Working as a group, you have 1 minute to put the cards into the order of importance.
Activity 2: Let’s Roleplay Choose one scenario card from the pack. Working in small groups, act out what you would do if you found a casualty in this situation. Remember DR ABC to ensure that your actions are in order of priority.
