Questionnaire • In doing my research I discovered that most teenagers prefer comedy and horror with openings that give a jarring response to hopefully evoke an emotion. Whether it be fear or laughing, intense reactions is what they’re looking for in a film
Notes on Film Openings “Fight Club” • extreme close up of the main character at gun point • Starts with a glimpse of the end • Dark setting (night, very little light) • Completely Non-Diegetic sound (his thoughts, music) • Moves between Non-Diegetic (his thoughts) and Diegetic (someone talking to him) • Starts off with music wjth fast paced beats
Notes on Film Opening “Requiem for A Dream” • Starts off introducing film companies • Starts off with a wide shot commercial • Diegetic Sound (people shouting and talking) • Brought back to real world with the TV being unplugged • Mise-en-scene to make the TV main focus • Dully lit - no vibrancy to the scene
Notes on Film Opening “Pulp fiction” • Starts off with a close up • Non-Diegetic sound (dialogue) • A couple about to rob a diner • Moves to Diegetic sound- upbeat music • Moves to wideshot • Mise-en-scene good lighting, vibrant colors (including bright colors for the lettering)
Conclusion-Film Openings ●All three action-drama films that I studied here began with an unsettling beginning. The colors tended to be quite colorful and vibrant. No dull colors were used either in the characters’ wardrobes or in their settings. This conveyed a rather intense, action packed mood to begin the film, in order to set up the jarring action genre of the film. ●The sound in the films seemed to be similar, all loud and upbeat, following with the mood of the opening scene and the overall genre. “Fight club” in particular and dark opening with vibrant touches of light which was similar to “Pulp Fiction” and they both start out with similar scenes that involve gun violence and close up of the characters in the opening scene.
Films that Influenced Me • The film “Fight Club” and “Requiem for a dream” influenced me by having an intense opening scene along with giving insight to the main character(s) thoughts. The beginning of both of these films could be described as action packed. • I would keep both of these film opening along with pulp fictions. These film openings made me believe that all of these movies would have an mental impact along with them being aesthetically pleasing for the audience.
Which Film Company would produce my film The company that would produce my film would be Fox. While the most famous action and drama films in cinematic history are Universal, Paramount, and Fox, I feel that the ones that are associated with Fox are most similar to my film. These Columbiaproduced films, such as "Logan" , "The Greatest Showman, " "Red Sparrow" and "Independence Day” have lead me towards choosing Fox.
