Ø MANUFACTURING PROCEDURES (Whenever required in our E. S Annex 6. 3) Ø TEST PROCEDURES (Whenever required in our E. S Annex 6. 3) Ø EB WELDED SAMPLES: CERN request a duplicate of every test coupon used for qualification purposes. WPS -WPQR-WOPQ According to ASME BPVC CODE SECTION IX (Part QW) Ø WPS is a written document with the instructions of the joining process prepared for the person who perform the welds (Format QW-482). Ø WPQR is the qualification of the WPS in order to demonstrate that the joining process proposed, is capable to perform welds within the required mechanical properties for the intended applications. (Format QW-483) Ø WOPQ is the qualifying of the person who will performa joining process. It demostrates the ability to produce a sound joint when using a WPS (Format QW-484 b) q NOTE: The welding operator who performes the WPQR is automatically qualified within the limits of the range of qualification table QW-361. 1. In case that another different person carries out the welds, he shall be qualified according to paragrah QW-362. Ø WPQR For electron beam welding (paragraph from ASME IX): QW‐ 215. 1 The WPS qualification test coupon shall be prepared with the joint geometry duplicating that to be used in production. If the production weld is to include a lap‐over (completing the weld by rewelding over the starting area of the weld, as for a girth weld), such lap‐over shall be included in the WPS qualification test coupon. Ø WPQR shall document as minimum all ESSENTIAL variables as specified in Table QW-260: • • • Welder Name or Id. Joint design Welding parameters Base metals identification and material certificates. Ø The mechanical testing requirements of QW-451 shall apply. Groove welds shall be tested according to the requirements of QW 451: 2 tension tests, 2 face bend and 2 root bend tests (avoid side bending). Paula Freijedo EN/MME 22/05/2015 5
Ø ONE EXCEPTION: Critical Configuration Nb. Ti/Nb with partial penetration Qualification test coupon shall duplicate exactly this configuration Test to be performed: Metallographic Examination (To be discussed with JLAB and confirmed) EN/MME 22/05/15 6
