Quality Systems – Ph. D Consortium

Quality Systems Evolution • Program – a bit non traditional for Quality • Some in a good way • Lean elements, leadership elements • Core tools, COQ, reliability, quantitative tools, 7 Mngt. tools, etc. not present. • Redesigned all present courses to meet industry needs • More practical vs theoretical - applied

Quality Systems - Evolution • Quality Systems Major Courses - Current QS 3550 Lean for Mfg & Service QS 3610 Auditing Change Services QS 3710 Six Sigma Systems QS 3800 Lean Six Sigma QS 4600 Synchronous Quality Planning QS 4700 Kaizen Planning QS 4650 Leadership for Lean Manufacturing

Quality Systems Changes • Quality Systems Major Courses – Approved • QS 3550 Lean for Mfg & Service – SME Cert Content • QS 3610 QMS Auditing – Standards Based • QS 3710 Six Sigma – Stats Added • QS 3800 Core Tools of Quality – Problem Solving • QS 4600 Quality Mngt Systems Planning Standards • QS 4700 Quantitative Tools for Quality and CI • QS 4650 Leadership for Lean Mfg

Quality Systems – Changes MS • Masters Certificate and MTM-QS • Four course required for MS Certificate & same 4 required to satisfy the QS concentration MTM-QS degree • QS 5270 Synchronous Quality Planning • QS 6160 Quality Culture • QS 6260 Six Sigma Analysis • QS 6270 Lean Systems

Quality Systems – Changes MS • Two Changes to Masters Program • Remove GRE requirement for admission to Master Cert • QS 5270 Description to QS 6100 – Exclusively Masters • QS 6100 Quality Systems Planning • QS 6160 Quality Culture – Culture for QM • QS 6260 Six Sigma Analysis – Effective

Quality Systems – CI with CBE • CBE – Competency Based Education • Mastery based vs. Time Based • Focus on required competencies • Flexibility of time and pace • Can potentially move through degree faster – self paced • CBE gaining popularity especially as Higher Ed Challenged • State of Ohio also encouraging pursuance

Quality Systems – CBE 9 th Report on the Condition of Higher Education in Ohio 2016

Quality Systems – CI with CBE • Only 43% of Ohio Workforce (25 – 64) have postsecondary credentials • Job Demand - By 2020 it will need to increase to 64% • Ohio Goal – 65% of Ohioans (25 – 64) to have postsecondary credential by 2025 • 3 Critical priorities identified to achieve • Align credential with in-demand jobs • Educate more adults (vs traditional grads) • Rethink the business of education – better outcomes

Quality Systems – CBE

Quality Systems – CBE Pilot Course • CBE – Competency Based Education • Well aligned with the three priorities • Typically on-line • Large % of students are 25 or part time with responsibility • QS 3550 Lean for Mfg & Service • Pilot in Summer 18 & Fall 18 • Increase in Adult Students – University Enrollment goal

Quality Systems – CBE Notables • Southern New Hampshire • Cappella • Sin. Clair CC • University of Wisconsin • Western Governors WGU • Western Kentucky • Northern Arizona

Quality Systems – Unique Aspects • Conducive to adult learners • The nature of quality professional • Quality of Adjuncts – Industry Experience • Many begin career as engineer, etc. and then make the move to quality • Applicable & attractive to many disciplines • • Healthcare, military, government, mfg, service, etc. • Affiliation/agreements with CCAF and DAU Exploit non traditional course credit opportunities

Quality Systems – Unique Aspects • Non traditional course credit opportunities include: • CBE – Credit by Examination • CBV – Credit by Validation (non accredited for profit) • PLA – Credit by Portfolio - Prior Learning Experience • All done at own pace • All represent faster, cheaper options to gain credit for life experience and or previous college courses taken • State of Ohio encourages and supports • Decision to accept unique to the college and program
