QUALITY MANAGEMENT TOOLS WHAT IS A BAR CHART
QUALITY MANAGEMENT TOOLS:
WHAT IS A BAR CHART? Bar Charts are a efficient way to compare classes or groups of data. A class or group can have a single category of data or multiple categories for greater depth of analysis. WHEN TO USE IT: The University of Cambridge says that you can use bar charts in “Situations when it is useful “: -to show the relationship and change between groups -to display discrete quantities rather than continuing change
HOW TO UNDERSTAND IT: The Bar Chart shows measurements in discrete physical bars, as you can see in our example. Numeric measurements can be organized in tables to make them easier to understand
HOW TO DO IT: We need to follow the next steps: Identify the purpose of the Bar Chart Decide on the data that must be displayed in the chart Identify how individual bars are to be made up Select the number of bars in the chart Draw a sample chart Collect the data, for example with a Check Sheet Plot the chart, using appropriate scales Review the chart
Pie chart
What is a pie chart? Pie charts are used to show classes or groups of data in proportion to the whole data set. The entire pie represents all the data, while each slice represents a different class or group within the whole.
What are pie charts useful for? Look for the largest piece to find the most common class. Notice relative sizes of pieces. Some classes might be unexpectedly similar or different in size. Try looking at a two-dimensional view of the pie; 3 D charts are attractive but they can make pieces at the front of the picture look bigger than they really are.
