About Qualcomm ● Who is Qualcomm, and what do we do? We are engineers, scientists and business strategists. We are from many different countries and speak many different languages. We come from diverse cultures and have unique perspectives. ● Together, we focus on a single goal -- invent mobile technology breakthroughs ● The founders of Qualcomm met in San Diego for the purpose of creating “quality communications” ● Franklin Antonio, Adelia Coffman, Andrew Cohen, Klein Gilhousen, Irwin Jacobs, Andrew Viterbi and Harvey White
Qualcomm Innovations Processors: Integrating best-in-class technologies all on a single chip, Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processors support cutting-edge performance and maximized battery life. 3 G/4 G LTE Modems: Qualcomm® Gobi™ modems deliver superior speed and always-on connectivity in wireless devices with multimode capabilities. Displays: Qualcomm® Mirasol™ display technology and Pixtronix™ display technology deliver a unique combo of power efficiency and stunning visual performance that help you get more out of the devices you love. Location: Pinpointing locations with increased accuracy, Qualcomm® IZat™ location services also support better mapping experiences with incredibly minimal impact on battery life. Wi-Fi: With Qualcomm® VIVE™ 802. 11 ac technology, devices can make the most of more powerful Wi. Fi, connect to the highest speed channels and save up to 6 x more battery life than older Wi-Fi technologies. Wireless Device Charging: Qualcomm® Wi. Power™ wireless charging technology supports flexible wireless power transfer, eliminating the need for multiple chargers and wires.
How Qualcomm affects you ● Qualcomm Chip is in the majority of smartphone models such as: Iphone 6+, Samsung Galaxy, Nexus, HTC One, etc. ● LTE, soon X-LTE ● Always innovating new mobile technology.
What is Lab-Ops? ● First responders for Engineering support ● Dedicated to communicating with QCT development and test teams to resolve issues with systems. ● Assistance with lab planning, programming, relocation, etc.
What does Lab-Ops Do? ● Deployment of new test base stations and others such as RUMI’s, SUFI’s, CUBE’s, WILDCAT’s ● IP address management for supported systems and test equipment ● RF cabling from head-end test systems to end users ● IP network (ethernet) cable installations ● Rooftop antenna installations and cabling to labs
Internship Project Goal: Experience multiple fields of engineering to narrow down the area I would like to pursue in the future. Result: Narrowed down to two areas of engineering, Software/Programming and Security/Hacking.
Working with Meric ● Worked with “C” ● Small project ● Making Connections
My Takeaways 1. Work can be fun, but not everyday is going to be exciting. 1. - How I’ve grown as a person Inspired to learn in my own time Not afraid to ask questions Listening/teamwork 3. Views for the future - Excited to work, but no rush it.
Tips for Sophomores 1. Get ahead (Start looking for internships now) 2. Find one you’re interested in/passionate about 3. Make Connections
