Hackathon Process 3
Hackathon • A hackathon is a gathering where programmers collaboratively code in an extreme manner over a short period of time. While working on a particular project, the idea is for each developer to have the ability and freedom to work on whatever he/she wants. 4
HACKATHON 2015 • 3 days, all of R&D • Theme : Focus on Mobile Applications • A moment to step away from the current mainstream work and to bolster creativity and innovation - Creative ideas – Bottom-up vision vs Top-down - Create showcase mobile apps, but not to be released as standard product 5

Background Information 17
Slack
Some Metrics
Challenges • Not properly assessing the background of attendees - Background varied quite a bit (from no HTML to Pro level) - Required teaching basic Mobile and basic HTML 5 concepts - Initial Webinar was not as helpful as anticipated • Start-up documentation somewhat unclear • Extra complication in trying to reach on-premise resources with cloud tools
Formula for Repeatability? Support from Progress is important, but as important is Social Dynamics at QAD • Motivation from CTO (Tony) • Available time - Fairly expensive for QAD in developer hours - Fairly cheap for Progress – 1 -2 close to 100% time, 1 -2 50%, many <20% Winning Arrangement: • Face-to-face for the teams, w/ social motivation - They already know each other; they know how to work together • But virtual for mentors
Takeaways • • Tested and chosen Progress Telerik Platform Great support from Progress! Set the mobile strategy Tested the open API infrastructure 23
