Pythagoras Objective To use Pythagoras Theorem to find

Pythagoras Objective: To use Pythagoras Theorem to find the lengths of sides in a right-angled triangle. Pythagoras’ only works If you draw theorem squares on the two on right – angled triangles shorter sides… Area A … and find their area. Area B Lesley Hall @ Soar Valley College

Pythagoras Objective: To use Pythagoras Theorem to find the lengths of sides in a right-angled triangle. Area C Area A Area B Area A + Area B = Area C The sum of their areas equals the area of the square on the longest side! Lesley Hall @ Soar Valley College

Pythagoras Objective: To use Pythagoras Theorem to find the lengths of sides in a right-angled triangle. Find the length of x. 9 cm 2 3 cm Find the area of the smaller squares x 4 cm 16 cm 2 Lesley Hall @ Soar Valley College

Pythagoras Objective: To use Pythagoras Theorem to find the lengths of sides in a right-angled triangle. Find the length of x. 25 cm 2 9 cm 2 3 cm x 4 cm What will the length x be? x =find 25 the = 5 cm add to area of the large square. 16 cm 2 Lesley Hall @ Soar Valley College

Pythagoras Objective: To use Pythagoras Theorem to find the lengths of sides in a right-angled triangle. Find the length of x. 6 cm x x 2 = 8 2 + 6 2 x 2 = 64 + 36 8 cm x 2 = 100 x = 100 = 10 Lesley Hall @ Soar Valley College

Pythagoras Objective: To use Pythagoras Theorem to find the lengths of sides in a right-angled triangle. Find the length of x. 7 cm x x 2 = 9 2 + 7 2 x 2 = 81 + 49 9 cm x 2 = 130 x = 130 = 11. 4 Lesley Hall @ Soar Valley College

Pythagoras Objective: To use Pythagoras Theorem to find the lengths of sides in a right-angled triangle. Find the length of x. This time we need to find the area of one of the smaller squares … x 12 cm … so we need to subtract! x 2 = 122 - 82 x 2 = 144 - 64 8 cm x 2 = 80 x = 80 = 8. 9 Lesley Hall @ Soar Valley College
