WHAT BRINGS ABOUT SHAME? “Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. ” (2 Cor 7: 9 -10 NKJV) Ø 2 Peter 1: 5 -7) Add to your knowledge the characteristics we need in our lives!! Ø

WHY SOME DO NOT FEEL “SHAME” Ø Ø Ø “The LORD is righteous in her midst, He will do no unrighteousness. Every morning He brings His justice to light; He never fails, but the unjust knows no shame. ” (Zeph 3: 5 NKJV) “…speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron” (1 Tim 4: 2 NKJV) “…who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. ” (Eph 4: 19 NKJV) o “They have become callous…” (ESV)

SOME TEACH US TO BE ASHAMED OF GOOD THINGS Ø “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!” Isaiah 5: 20 -21 (NKJV)

SHAME CAN HELP US TO CHANGE! Ø “I say this to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you, not even one, who will be able to judge between his brethren? ” (1 Cor 6: 5 NKJV)

FALSE TEACHING Ø Ø “Everyone is dull-hearted, without knowledge; Every metalsmith is put to shame by an image; For his molded image is falsehood, And there is no breath in them. ” (Jer 10: 14 NKJV) "I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstfruits on the fig tree in its first season. But they went to Baal Peor, and separated themselves to that shame; They became an abomination like thing they loved. ” (Hosea 9: 10 NKJV)

PUTTING OUR TRUST IN THINGS THAT FAIL Ø Ø “Therefore the strength of Pharaoh Shall be your shame, And trust in the shadow of Egypt Shall be your humiliation. ” (Isaiah 30: 3 NKJV) “For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame things which are mighty” 1 Cor 1: 26 -27 (NKJV)

WOMEN SPEAKING IN CHURCH Ø “And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church. 36 Or did the word of God come originally from you? HOW WE SPEAK OF SIN “But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; ” (Eph 5: 3 NKJV) Ø “For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. ” (Eph 5: 12 NKJV) Ø

OUR MANNER OF DRESS Ø “… in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing” (1 Tim 2: 9 NKJV)

A LACK OF DILIGENCE IN LEARNING Ø “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. ” (2 Tim 2: 15 NKJV)

UTILIZING THE VALUE OF SHAME Maintain and gain knowledge from God’s word (Colossians 1: 9 -10) Ø Keep the right company (1 Corinthians 15: 33) Ø Maintain a good reputation (Ruth 3: 11) Ø o “And now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you all that you request, for all the people of my town know that you are a virtuous woman. ” (NKJV)

UTILIZING THE VALUE OF SHAME Do NOT be ashamed of the gospel (Romans 1: 16) Ø Do NOT be ashamed of faithful Christians (2 Timothy 1: 8) Ø Do NOT be ashamed to suffer as a Christian ( Ø To suffer as a Christian (2 Timothy 1: 12; 1 Peter 4: 16) Ø Of Christ and His will. (Luke 9: 26) Ø

JOEL 2: 26 -27 “You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; and My people shall never be put to shame. 27 Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel: I am the LORD your God and there is no other. My people shall never be put to shame. ” (NKJV)
