Ephesian 6: 10 -18 • 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. • 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. • 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, [a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. • 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Background • The Roman Soldier Helmet – Known as a galea – They wore two types - made of leather or metal – Great protection - band protecting forehead, plates to protect cheeks, extended down to protect neck – The only thing not covered were eyes, nose and mouth – Almost a must have for soldier entering into battle

What is Salvation? • Salvation means being saved (by grace through faith) - receiving deliverance • “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. ” Rom 5: 8 -10

How can we receive Salvation? • (BY GRACE) – The gift of God – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6: 23) • (THROUGH FAITH) – Accept Christ as Savior – “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. ” (Romans 10: 9 -10)

What does a helmet have to do with salvation? • A helmet protects a soldier against damaging and deadly blows to the head. • Spiritually speaking, the helmet of salvation provides hope and protects the mind against anything that would disorient or destroy the Christian, such as discouragement or deceit • 1 Th 5: 8 “But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. ”

3 Tenses of Salvation • Past experience of salvation - that moment we were saved – Justification • Present experience of our salvation - the now - our present walk with God – Sanctification • Future experience of our salvation - when we enter into eternal glory to be with Him - Glorification

Hope of Salvation is an Anchor • “Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil” (Hebrews 6: 17 -19).

Satan’s evil tactic • Doubt our salvation and our status as the children of God ØDon’t need to behave like one • Fear of eternal judgment ØLive with fear and worry • Lose eternal hope ØFocus on temporary things on earth

How does Satan attack us? He gets us to lose sight of the eternal hope and to focus only on the NOW - the daily struggle – We worry – We hurry – We seek happiness – We seek after the world – We live for the moment – We live for the temporal

How does the Helmet protect us? It takes our attention off of only the struggle of the now and puts it on our future glory – We trust God – We rely on God – We seek eternal joy – We seek after God’s will – We live for God – We live for the eternal

Hope of Salvation Sustain us “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead “ (I Peter 1: 3) • Hope of salvation sustains us daily – Confident in our status as children of God – Peace in God during stormy time – Face discouragement with strength – Focus on spiritual and not material – Set our goal toward eternal reward

Conclusion: Helmet of Salvation • Salvation means being saved (by grace through faith) • Helmet of Salvation protects our MIND & THINKING • Be careful of spiritual discouragement and weariness • Satan wants us to focus on NOW and not ETERNAL • Hope of salvation focuses on future glorification • Hope of salvation sustains us daily
