C Rome conquers all of Italy and gains power and wealth • Carthage is also very strong and powerful – they currently control the Mediterranean Sea. • Rome wants to be the strongest power in the Med. Sea so they want to control Sicily, Corsica, and Sardinia (b/c then you control all the trade of the Med. Sea)
Causes Cont… • Land = Money = Power • Carthage currently has control over the Islands • Rome wants it and Carthage has it • Evolves into a huge, bitter rivalry
