Pulse What is Pulse The pulse or beat
Pulse
What is Pulse? The pulse (or beat) is the steady heartbeat of the music. Some pieces of music will have a quick pulse and some will have a slow pulse – exactly the same as all of us. We feel this pulse without realising it; it is what makes us tap our foot or sway from side to side.
Say this rhyme together. When you see the heart symbol above the word, tap your foot. Pulse is a steady beat Feel it moving in our feet Always steady keep in time Tap our feet and say this rhyme.
Now obviously pulse or beat in music isn’t shown by using little hearts (although it would make music look friendly!). Instead, we use notes to tell us how long to play for. This is a crotchet and we use this to show 1 beat in music (crotchet = heart). We are going to repeat the rhyme again on the next slide. Tap your feet to the crotchets instead of hearts…….
Pulse is a steady beat Feel it moving in our feet Always steady keep in time Tap our feet and say this rhyme.
Try to find the beat to these pieces of music. Shut your eyes when the music is playing and allow your foot to find the beat! 1. https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=s 3 SZ 5 s. Challenge Time! Time to create our own body percussion! Pretty much every popular song is in 4 – meaning we count 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4……. all the way through…… - Pick your favourite song and find that beat. - Once you have that beat, pick an action for beat 1, then another for beat 2, and so on……. (for example, stamp on 1, clap on 2, click on 3, clap on 4 – you don’t have to go too fancy!). Press play and good luck! Extra challenge! If that’s too easy, let’s make it harder. Pick a number and treat this as a rest ( for example, stamp on 1, rest on 2, click on 3, clap on 4). Change the number each time. If you want any ideas, try this one and follow the actions! https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=92 gf 8 d. Alh. Uw
