Pueblo People-
I. Pueblo people 1400’s-present day Native American Group -there were over 80 Pueblos but only 19 remaining today
A. Location n Located in NM mainly along the Rio Grande River
B. Housing 1. Live in Multi-story buildings a. 2 -5 stories high b. buildings look like stair ways c. doors were not on 1 st floor d. Made with adobe bricks e. Pueblos housed everyone in the community
5. Rooms had various functions a. Lower-story rooms 1. To store food b. Upper-story 1. Where people lived 2. Had balconies where people cooked and worked.
6. Most pueblos housed between 200 -300 people. Some were larger 30, 000 lived in SW in the 1500’s

Religious Rites revolved around kachinas Believed to be messengers to their gods n Kind of like saints n Different kachinas for different things n Kachinas vary from pueblo to pueblo n

B. Economics- How did they survive All Pueblo People were farmers n Farmed the three sister-corn, squash, and beans n Used techniques like irrigation, crop rotation, and dry farming to produce food and adapt to the environment n
C. Social Structure Every person in the tribe had a job to do n For Most Pueblos the most important unit was your clan n Clan for the most part for based on the mother or matrilineal n
Oldest female in your clan was the most respected and the person whom made decisions for your clan n Some Pueblos were patrilineal but not many n Those had Moiety n
D. Skilled Craftsman Weaved-baskets, clothing, etc. . n Made pottery n Jewelry n
