• The hex code is #CC 8899 Info about Puce • Puce is made from 80% red, 53. 3% green, and 60% blue (how the eyes perceives it) • In CMYK it is made of 0% cyan, 33% magenta, 25% yellow, and 20% black • A saturation of 40% and a lightness of 66. 7%
Origins • Puce is the French word for flea • It is said to be the color left on bedsheets after being crushed or the bloodstain s from them biting you • People worse puce in France in the ruling of Louis XVI because as the story goes, he saw his wife (picture on the left) wearing it and liked it and since the dye was easy to make with fleas many of the bourgeoise wore it (the fad ended quickly) • The first use of the word “Puce” as a color in the English language was in 1778
Origins Continued • The color is made by mixing purple and brown to make a close relative of burnt sienna • Many people mistake the color to be a green similar to the green color chartreuse that many people think is a pinkish color • One way it is made is on cotton with diazotized amino benzaldehyde and then with the hydrochloride of phenylhydrazine to make a puce color • The dye for clothing was made by crushing the fleas
How it’s Used • Puce is often used as a neutral accent color in modern interior decorating • When looking it up I have found that it is more common than people think, but people don’t know because a lot of people don’t know what color puce is • Accents for other colors or as a slight pop of color Example
Colors • The complementary color is a cyan color kind of mint green to teal (depending on the shade or tint of puce) • The complement is 88 CCBB
