WHAT? • A Targeted Improvement Plan (TIP) is used by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to help schools ensure they are providing the best possible education to all students.

WHY? • Two years ago, PTMS received an over all school score of a D. TEA said there were some things we needed to fix in order to better reach all of our students. • Last year, we made great progress. All of our scores went up and our over all school score went up to a C. • However, we still have some things to work on. • This is where the TIP comes in.

HOW IT WAS DEVELOPED • The TIP was created in collaboration among faculty and staff members at PTMS and Region 7. • Through the process, we identified two main areas of focus.

TARGETED AREAS • Through this process, we were able to determine 2 areas in which we will focus our efforts this year. • 1. Create a compelling and aligned vision, mission, goals, values focused on a safe environment and high expectations. • 2. Create objective-driven daily lesson plans with formative assessments.

TARGET AREA #1 • Why: By creating a compelling vision, mission and goals, we

TARGET AREA #1 • Why: By creating a compelling vision, mission and goals, we will create leverage in the campus environment for our teachers to move on. All stakeholders (This includes parents and students) need to have a voice in the development of vision, mission, and values to have ownership moving forward. • Outcome: PTMS will have a concise and meaningful mission, vision, values, and goals with ownership from all stakeholders.

TARGET AREA #2 • Why: We have to be able to provide consistent, high

TARGET AREA #2 • Why: We have to be able to provide consistent, high quality instruction that is horizontally (across different subject areas) and vertically (from grade to grade) aligned every day, day-to-day in every classroom, every content area. • Outcome: All content areas in all grade levels will have daily lesson plans driven by common formative assessments that are tracked through DMAC (district data too). Student growth and achievement will be a by-product of the high quality instruction.

IMPORTANCE OF GROWTH • More important than passing STAAR is ensuring that each student has an opportunity to grow at least one year during the school year. This focus on growth, rather than the passing standard, means that every student has a goal to shoot for. • When students take common assessments, students are measured against their own goal rather than an arbitrary standard.
