My Biases/Beliefs o Physical/Observable world o “Real world” exists apart from the self o But your beliefs determine what you see of it o Politically conservative & liberal o Nurture usually trumps Nature* o Most psych textbooks are written by biased academics who disguise their prejudices with scientific sounding BS. *But it’s the INTERACTION that’s interesting & important.

Approach to Teaching Psychology o There are “Things” you must know: o Basic facts o Established beliefs o Latest views o Culturally important Names o There are “Processes” you must learn: o Tools for learning & critical thinking o Methods which define the Science of Psychology o Especially the Science of Developmental Psych! It’s all about Acquiring Useful, “real world, ” Knowledge.
My Approach to o o o o This Course Minimal “busy work” Emphasis on learning the important material Frequent quizzes 3 Section Exams & a Final Exam One Semester Project [Possibly] No “experimental subject” responsibilities Observational exercises [TBD] Broad topically but deep enough to be useful o o in your life in your career
