PSTN/ISDN Emulation q Intended to provide the current services to PSTN/ISDN users with an unchanged presentation q PSTN/ISDN emulation sits within the context of the same NGN Transport, Resource Access Control, Network Attachment and Common Functions. q A functional architecture to express the relationships with NGN functions is being developed which does not restrict implementations 22 -23 June 2004 TISPAN-3 GPP Workshop - Sophia-Antipolis 3
Possible Functional architectures q Suggestions so far § Use IMS functions as Functional Entities to model PSTN § Use Softswitch and Media Gateway components § Could also start from IN and ISDN functional models 22 -23 June 2004 TISPAN-3 GPP Workshop - Sophia-Antipolis 4
Subsystem specific requirements q Provide essential services required by regulators § Comply with New Framework directives including Privacy and Data Protection q Maintain functional splits required by regulation of PSTN and ISDN q Maintain Interconnect to other networks q Provide a path for graceful migration of PSTN to NGN q Maintain services based on IN q Maintain speech quality for real call mix q Continue to support legacy terminals § Allow users to benefit from NGN services 22 -23 June 2004 TISPAN-3 GPP Workshop - Sophia-Antipolis 5
