Feelings and emotions What are feelings? Feelings are something that we feel from within or inside ourselves. Feelings never remain the same for too long, they keep changing. There are different kinds of feelings that we experience. What are emotions? Emotions are the names given to our feelings. They describe the way we feel at different times and enable us to process the situation we are in and how we are responding to it. Our emotions can change quickly from one moment to the next and sometimes certain emotions can last a long time.

Feelings and emotions What is the difference? A fundamental difference between feelings and emotions is that feelings are experienced consciously, while emotions manifest either consciously or subconsciously. This means sometimes they happen without us even realising! Look at the following slides and try to guess the feeling or emotion being shown in the picture ……….

Think about the feelings and emotions you have just seen. When have you experienced them? Which ones are positive? Which ones are negative? Can you think of any synonyms for them?

Feelings and emotions Now choose one and create your own emoji. Explain your choice of colour, facial expression etc. Don’t copy the emojis we already use on our phones!
