PSHE Term 6 - Key Stage 1 Changing Me
How have I changed? Ask an adult at home to show you some pictures or videos of you from different times in your life What changes can you see? (e. g. I am taller, I wear glasses, I have teeth) What things have changed that you can’t ‘see’? (e. g. I am better at making new friends, I have learnt to tie my shoe laces) Is there anything you miss about being younger? If so, what? Which are your favourite changes and why?
What helps us grow and change Look at the lifecycle of a frog… What things can you think of that might help the tiny frog spawn turn into a fully grown frog? Some examples might be; • Someone to keep you safe • Food and drink • A safe place to live
What helped me grow and change Now think about things that have helped you change from a baby, into a toddler, a pre-schooler, and now a primary school pupil. See if you can fit your ideas into these groups; Physical things (e. g. your bones getting stronger, learning how to use scissors) Emotional and social things (e. g. what makes you feel better when you’re sad, how to make friends) Communication and learning (e. g. being able to say more words, not giving up when you can’t do something)
What will be changing next Soon you will be moving to a new year group. Below are some examples of things that may be the same, and things that may be different. Can you think of any others? Things that may be the same • Friends • Subjects (i. e. maths, English, P. E) • The school building • Start and finish time Things that may be different • Classroom • Teacher or teachers • Support staff • Lunch and play times • Classmates
How I feel about these changes Do any of these faces match any of the feelings you have about changing year group and class? Remember, feelings can be; • Good • Bad • Good and bad
How I can manage these changes Can you think of something you have achieved or learnt recently that you thought you wouldn’t be able to do? It might be; riding without stabilisers, baking a cake without anyone helping you or doing a cartwheel with straight legs! But…now you CAN do it! Ask an adult to help you think about the skills, qualities and abilities you used to make this happen. Can you think of any ways in which these skills might help you to manage some of the school changes that might be coming up?
Getting help if I need it If you were feeling sad, nervous, worried, upset, anxious or scared about something at school that had recently changed – who might you be able to talk to about it?
