16/12/2014 PSB recombination kickers rise time 2 Present situation – Coil measurement • Raised by FOM that rise time of BT. KFA 10 is about 150 ns instead of specified 105 ns (1 -99%) • Measured field with coil close to ground conductor • Confirms ~150 ns +/- 10 ns (? ) • No overshoot Kick calculation (BT 4. KFA 10) BT 4. KFA 10 kick
16/12/2014 PSB recombination kickers rise time 3 Present situation – Beam measurement • Measured with beam • Bunch length is of the order of the rise time • Need to resolve intrabunch deflections
16/12/2014 PSB recombination kickers rise time 4 Follow-up • Check old notes and Pspice model what could be the measurement filtering and errors - Luc • Tabulate measured rise times for 10 -90, 5 -95, 2 -98, 1 -99% - Luc • Develop simple tool (Python, or Mat. Lab? ) to read in a bunch distribution, a kicker waveform, and other basic parameters (nominal kick, emittance, beta), to calculate analytical emittance growth (maybe without damper to start, then with simplified assumptions on damper being on) – Wolfgang • Plot beam measurements for 2 different bunch lengths to show when bunch edges (and core) start to be kicked, and by how much – Wolfgang + Bren • Check if any possibility for 10 ns bunch length from PSB for subsequent measurements – Wolfgang • Look at PS transverse damper signals (pickups and also damper excitation history) to see if any better observable than BPM – Wolfgang • Measure field waveform in spare KFA 20 magnet in test cage, and compare to PSpice simulation - Luc • Come back on this early 2015
