Psalm 8 (NKJV) 1 O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! 2 Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants, You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

Our God, He Is Alive • It is our aim to spend this year going to God’s word • We want to look at some of the basic things of Christianity • What is more basic to our faith than looking at how we can know that our God is real

Our God, He Is Alive • “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear” (I Pet. 3: 15) • Why do you believe in God?

Our God, He Is Alive • We need to know why we believe in God • We also need to know how we would defend His existence to others • Our study this morning will help us do that

Creation • One of the biggest pieces of evidence for the existence of God comes from nature • The Bible tells us that God created the heavens and the earth (Gen. 1: 1) • His creation speaks of Him (Rom. 1: 20)

Creation • Psalm 8 & 19 both speak of God and how His creation declares His greatness • What do we see around us that points towards God more than a scientific theory such as the “Big Bang”?

Creation • 1. Law of Biogenesis § LOB – All natural life came from life of it’s own kind that existed before it § Birds come from birds, dogs come from dogs, etc. § Fossil records show no missing links

Creation • 1. Law of Biogenesis § Why? Because they don’t exist § Genesis 1: 1, 11 -12, 20 -22, 24 -25 § Fits perfectly with the Law of Biogenesis § What many tout about evolution and such contradicts this law

Creation • 2. Design § Genesis 1: 1 § House hunting – construction § “For every house is built by someone…” (Heb. 3: 4) § God made it all (Acts 14: 15) § No excuse (Rom. 1: 20)

Creation • 2. Design § Creation shows God’s work (Ps. 19: 1) § Watch – watchmaker § Computer – builder or designer § Consider the same with our Solar system & planet Earth

Creation • 2. Design § Earth departs from a straight line 1/9 in. every 18 mi. § 1/8 would be too close to Sun § 1/10 would be too far from Sun § Consider Earth’s overall distance from the Sun (if it were 10% closer or further…)

Creation • 2. Design § Consider the distance of the earth to the moon; if we were further… § Ocean wouldn’t move around § Ocean life would stagnate § Lose 50% of our oxygen source

Creation • 2. Design § If we were closer to the moon, gravitational pull would cause 30 to 50 ft. waves to cover the entire earth twice a day § This proves there is design § All these things did not just happen by “chance”

Creation • 2. Design § Atmosphere – 21% oxygen § If raised, earth would become more flammable § If lowered, we would not have enough oxygen to breathe § Design demands a designer
