Proxy Access to Medication Ordering for Care Homes CQC registered care homes and GP

Proxy Access to Medication Ordering for Care Homes CQC registered care homes and GP practices and pharmacists can now work together to allow care home staff to order online repeat medication on behalf of residents. This is called ‘proxy access’. Proxy access was developed to allow someone other than the patient to access and manage parts of their GP online services account. The proxy is given their own online access account (rather than using the patient’s login details). Benefits found by care homes, GP practices and pharmacies include: • fewer risks and issues associated with ordering, issuing, collecting, and dispensing repeat medications • fewer errors and queries (e. g. missing items, what has been ordered/collected from pharmacy) • improved clinical safety • easier and faster access, as care home staff can order at any time of the day or night • improved data security due to care home staff have their own username and password, which also saves time • better communications and working relationships between all More information can be found here: https: //www. england. nhs. uk/ourwork/clinical-policy/ordering-medication-using-proxyaccess/ We hope to support many care homes, pharmacies and GP Practices to implement this across the South West in the coming months, and will have a range of support available for this. There is an introductory event is open to everyone in the South West who are interested in, or already in the process of, implementing Proxy Access ordering on Friday 5 th February, 3 pm- 4 pm https: //www. events. england. nhs. uk/events/south-west-proxyaccess-regional-webinar For further information about help and support available in the South 1 | West, please contact Kaz; at kassin. yakhlef@nhs. net
