PROSPECTIVE CHOREOGRAPHERS FALL 2016

AUDITIONS v EVERY prospective choreographer auditions v Past choreographers are not automatically chosen • Choreographer surveys v Audition process: • Audition panel consists of President, Vice President, and our club Advisor • Show us 30 seconds of your choreography • Teach President 8 counts of your choreography • We try to choose dances that will create the most diverse show possible

CHOREOGRAPHY v Must be YOURS! v No tolerance for plagiarism • If we find out you took choreography from somewhere else, you will not be choreographing for the club ever again v Must be appropriate v Make sure it’s appropriate for the level you want your dance to be v You will have 8 weeks to teach and clean, so manage your time well v You should have formation changes

DANCERS v Minimum number: 24 v We need dances to fit all levels of dancers!!! • Yes, this means beginner dances v Please be open to taking more dancers! v YOU are the determining factor in their MCDE experience, so please respect all dancers and make your class enjoyable for them

MUSIC v Music must be appropriate!! v 3 minutes max v Cannot use a song that has been used within the last 4 years (if a senior can remember it) • If you’re not sure if a song has been used in the past, get in touch with Devan Tookmanian v No more than 2 songs by the same artist v Song thread over the summer • Just because you write that you want a song doesn’t mean it’s yours • If 2 people audition with the same song, we will choose one or ask you to change your song

COSTUMES v Think creative, colorful • We always get a lot of black and a lot of t-shirts v Can ask for no more than $10 from dancers v Can use costumes in storage v Costumes must be appropriate v All costumes must be approved by Brooke Moylan • Do not tell your dancers their costumes until they’re approved • Nothing is set until they are approved

PRACTICES v One scheduled class hour per week v Club rule: cannot miss more than 2 practices • Please enforce this! v Can hold extra help for dancers who want it, but it’s not mandatory v Speakers and folders are in the Aerobic Studio closet or Dance Studio Closet v Our speakers cannot be used for extra practices v Half of the classes are in the new dance studio

SPEAKERS v Choreographers will be held responsible if speakers are found broken v Cannot use them for extra practices, only for your designated class v Please contact a board member IMMEDIATELY if a speaker is found broken v If you see someone using them who is not a choreographer, contact us as well

RACQETBALL COURTS v Are not solely for our use v We have no control over who uses them and when v If you would like to use one for extra practice, call Mc. Cann and try to book one on your own

CHOREOGRAPHER MEETING v This meeting is MANDATORY v Costumes and music are due by this meeting v Will be sometime in October v Only mandatory meeting for choreographers

STRIKE SYSTEM v We ask you for a lot of different things over the semester v You need to hand all of these things in ON TIME, or you will receive a strike v 3 strikes and you will not be allowed to choreograph again the next semester v Notified of strikes via email from me

STRIKES v Failure to respond to all emails from dancers after sign-ups v Failure to send your roster to the club account v Failure to hand in music on time v Failure to hand in costume template on time v Not going to the choreographer meeting v Numerous complaints from your dancers v Not attending mandatory choreographer events

CHOREOGRAPHER EXPECTATIONS v Relay information from e-board to general members v Treat dancers with respect, be prepared for classes v Represent the club in a positive light v Mandatory choreographer events v Your dance/class is a part of MCDE, check in with me if you’d like to do something outside of the club

AUDITIONS v STARTS NEXT WEEK • AUDITIONS MONDAY/TUESDAY 9/12, 9/13 • 10 minute slots: • Monday: 7: 00 -9: 20 pm • Tuesday: 5: 30 -11: 00 pm • Bring filled out Interest Sheet if you do not fill it out tonight! v Sign interest sheet with your email address v GOOD LUCK!
