Proposal for the configuration of the minimum power on ATPC Issue #26 Mayl 2018
Description of ATPC working mode ATPC (Automatic Power Control) : in order to allow the remote linked NE to automatically control its radio transmission power, the local NE must retrieve the received power value, Receive Signal Level (RSL). Then, the local NE must send this information to the remote one. Local NE A Remotel NE B Tranmitter Receiver MODEM RSL A Tranmitter (RSL A) Receiver
Description of ATPC working mode According to the received power level (RSL A) , the remote transmitter (NE B) can decide to increase, decrease or hold the transmitted power level: - when the RSL decreases and overcomes the ATPC low threshold Remotel NE B +/- output power Tranmitter (atpc. Thresh. Lower ) the transmitter shall increase the output power, step by step, up (if needed) to the maximum value. MODEM (RSLA) Receiver - when the RSL becomes higher than ATPC upper threshold (atpc. Thresh. Upper ) the transmitter shall reduce step by step the power up to the minimum value. RSL A < atpc. Thresh. Lower increase Output Power RSL A > atpc. Thresh. Upper decrease Output Power For Nokia devices : atpc. Thresh. Lower is configurable atpc. Thresh. Upper = atpc. Thresh. Lower + 5 d. B (hysteresis) 3
Description of the problem ATPC working range: Min ATPC Power <= Output Power <= Max ATPC Power The ATPC working range has to follow same rules: tx. Power. Min <= Min ATPC Power < Max ATPC Power <= tx. Power. Max where tx. Power. Min / tx. Power. Max are capabilities on modulation basis 4
Description of the problem With the current ONF TR-532 1. 0 model , the ATPC working range is defined in the following: • Max ATPC Power = tx. Power (configured by manager on Air. Interface. Configuration instance class) • Min ATPC Power = tx. Power - atpc. Range (capability on air. Interface basis ) If Min ATPC Power, calculated in this way, goes below the tx. Power. Min for a specific modulation value , then tx. Power. Min is considered as Min ATPC Power. For this reason the Output Power could reach the tx. Power. Min value. As a consequence if Output Power reaches the tx-power-min it is very likely that on the remote NE (NE A in the example) the signal is not received or RSL A is very low that trigger a loop of a continuous Output Power increase and decrease (the hysteresis is 5 d. B between lower and upper Atpc thresholds). 5
Proposed Solution The idea is to allow also the configuration of the minimum power value in ATPC, overlapping the (tx. Power – atpc. Range) value. The (tx. Power – atpc. Range) represents now the minimun value where to select this new ‘minimum power value in ATPC’. The proposal could be to add a new attribute on Air. Interface. Configuration class: • - atpc. Tx. Power. Min • with the following constraint: (tx. Power – atpc. Range) < atpc. Tx. Power. Min < tx. Power 6
