Compared to the UK • Ridgeway would be a school where the pupils would stay on site for 5 years. In this time, all of KS 3 and KS 4 would be delivered (rather than the current split) • This would give continuity of teaching staff, delivery and increase the potential achievement for the pupils • 2 tiered is most common in the UK. All data and information is based on Primary or Secondary schools

These regulation mean that Governing Bodies of all categories of mainstream school can make the following changes without a formal process: • • Expansion • • Alteration of upper or lower age limit by up to two years (except for adding or removing a sixth-form)

Some contextual information • In 1983 there were 1400 Middle Schools in the UK (mostly England) • In 2014 there are 171 Middle Schools in the UK (England) • For RMS, each year at the end of Yr 6 we loose ¼ of the year group to the two tiered system in Warwickshire. This has been historic and current projections suggest the trend remains.

What might a secondary provision look like for Ridgeway? • KS 3 (Yr 7 -9) all National Curriculum subjects taught • KS 4 a common 'core' of subjects delivered to all pupils. The core consisting of English, Mathematics, Science, I. C. T. or Computer Studies, Religious Education, Personal and Social Education and Physical Education.

What might a secondary provision look like for Ridgeway? 2 • Pupils choose four 'optional' GCSE subjects. Choices are likely to include Geography, History, Religious Education, French, Music, Drama, Art, Physical Education, Business Studies, Child Care, Textiles, Engineering, Graphics, Resistant Materials and “Triple” Science. • Apart from the options available in school there would be the further option for some pupils to take a range of vocational courses. Ridgeway would work with other providers to facilitate this, as is the norm with secondary schools.

What might a secondary provision look like for Ridgeway? 3 • At this stage, Ridgeway is proposing a 3 form entry secondary. This would make Ridgeway a ‘small’ secondary of 450 pupils in the first instance • Work with other Post 16 providers such as NEW college, and other local secondary schools as no Post 16 offering in proposal • Similar sized schools locally : Campion – Leamington Spa, Queen Elizabeth School – Atherstone, Shipston High School - Shipston on Stour, Carteton – Oxford, Winchcombe – Gloucs, Erasmus Darwin - Staffs
