Can you use the laws of reflection to hit a target with a light

Can you use the laws of reflection to hit a target with a light ray? In this activity you will use two plane mirrors and a light source to it the bull’s eye of a target. Then you will use the mirrors and a remote control to turn on a television. Test your Understanding – A Reflection Obstacle Course (pg 413 in your text) Materials • Target • 2 plane mirrors • Mirror stands • Light source • Remote control Procedure 1. Your target and light source should be set up randomly in the room 2. Set up two plane mirrors so that you can hit the target by bouncing the light of both mirrors first 3. Next set up your mirrors so that the projector can be turned on by bouncing its “invisible” IR beam off the mirrors before hitting the projector

1. How did you have to position the two mirrors to hit the target?

1. How did you have to position the two mirrors to hit the target? Draw a diagram if it helps! Follow-up Questions 2. How does this activity provide evidence that invisible light sources of light also obey the laws of reflection? 3. Why doesn’t this activity provide proof that invisible light sources of light also obey the laws of reflection?
