Partner-up for a a short Power. Point and Speech on the following: • Find AT LEAST 3 different examples of propaganda being used in Western. democratic politics &/or media (U. S. , Britain, France, etc. ) and 3 examples of propaganda from Communist/Socialist politics &/or media (Russia, USSR, China, North Korea, Cuba). • NOTE – If you’re working in a triad, you need AT LEAST 9 examples. • Create a short Power. Point in which you: – Display the examples – Discuss what type of propaganda is being used (be sure to look for OTHER techniques being used in each piece!!!) – Discuss the purpose of the message This assignment will be due Tuesday/Wednesday, March 15 -16.

What to look for… • For “WESTERN” Propaganda, you might use… – Anything from U. S. , U. K. , or France from WWI, WWII, Korea, Cold War, Vietnam – Anything political today, such as political campaigns from Democrats or Republicans, either for or against people or issues – Anything citizen-based, such as with peoples’ movements like #Black. Lives. Matter or Human Rights Campaign (HRC), perhaps graffiti, antiestablishment pieces, e. g. , Banksy, Shepard Fairey, or street art • WATCH OUT for satirical propaganda that MAY not have a wide audience —can it be “propaganda” that isn’t seen by the masses? ? ?

What to look for… • For “Eastern” propaganda, you might consider… – Anything from WWI, WWII, etc. from Germany, Russia, USSR, China, Imperial Japan, Fascist Italy – Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, or other South or Central American COMMUNIST region – North Korea (anything from them, really. It’s all so wonderful… ) • Again, WATCH out for satirical or meme-like stuff. Is it really propaganda if it doesn’t have a wide audience?

What to look for… • Other ideas… – Conflicts in Northern Ireland – South Africa – Zapatistas – Israel vs. Palestine – Iran, Syria, Iraq, Saudi or other Middle Eastern nation – ISIS, Hamas, Hezbollah, or other “terrorist” organizations
